This is a stacked box with a better finish than the traditional Shunkei lacquer stacked box. This product was created by focusing on the beauty of the finished coating. It is normal for Hida Shunkei products that has some dusts on the surface, but this product was coated twice and looks beautiful. By applying two coats of finish lacquer, the transparency of the conventional Shunkei lacquerware might be lost, but the product is more beautiful.

[Production process]

Wood production: Shina plywood (fine-grained plywood) is used for the lid and the bottom plate of the body. The use of plywood prevents warping and cracking that can occur when solid wood is used. The sides are solid bay hiba wood.

Undercoating: Fill in the edge of lid and other holes with putty, then stabilize the wood with urethane sanding. At this time, it is colored in yellow. First grind is for making the surface smooth and then second sanding. Then 2nd grind again. Apply base lacquer coating then let it dry naturally for more than one month to make the base coat dry completely. Then, 3rd grinding.

Lacquering: The first hand-painting by a lacquer craftsman. The process until here is for the normal Shunkei lacquer style stacked boxes. The second top coat is applied to the finished product. The fourth grinding process here to improve the adhesion of the lacquer.
